Merang Beach: The Ideal Island Escape
The merry month of May is near and for beach lovers in Malaysia, this is the best time to hit the beach. But since almost all of the popular beaches in Malaysia get pretty crowded during this month, it could be rather frustrating for both locals and tourists alike to find the right beach for some peaceful rest and relaxation.
It is a good thing that there are still a few beaches in Malaysia that offer tranquility in a setting equally gorgeous as the popular ones. In the state of Terengganu, there is one said beach: the Merang Beach. Located about 30 kilometers north of Kuala Terengganu, Merang Beach is known as the gateway to the famous island of Redang because the main jetty going to the island can be found here.
Although not a very popular beach getaway, Merang Beach has all the same features as the well-known beaches in the country: long stretch of white sand, clear blue waters, and coconut trees swaying in the breeze. It is the perfect place for beachcombing, sunbathing, beach volleyball, and night walks. Beach lovers wanting to get away from the big crowds will definitely love the peace and quiet here. The beach is also a haven for surfers as its waters offer high waves during the monsoon season.
Due to the main jetty's location in Merang, most frequent visitors to Redang Island make a stopover in Merang Beach and stay at several resorts scattered along the area. One of these resorts is Merang Suria Resort, which is situated in the district of Setiu - a place known not only for its picturesque beaches but also for its wetlands and quaint fishing villages.
Merang Suria Resort provides inexpensive accommodations for holidaymakers and even for business travelers. It also offers recreational activities for groups and individuals which include canoeing, fishing, and jungle trekking that guests will surely find enjoyable. With a resort like this, staying in Merang Beach is as worthwhile as staying in Redang Island.
Know more about Merang Suria Resort's room rates and online reservations by visiting their website: suriaresorts.com/merang-suria [suriaresorts.com/merang-suria] .

THE F1 FEVER
Are you a Formula One fanatic? Do you look forward to every F1 season? Are you one of the thousands of female fans who swoon every time you see Kimi Raikkonen on the race track?
Kimi who? You might ask - that is, if you're not an avid fan of the Formula One Race. But for F1 fans, Kimi Raikkonen is already a household name - him being the current F1 world champion driver. If you're one of the millions of followers of the F1 race, then you definitely have something to look forward to this year.
This year marks the start of the 2008 Formula One season. After last year's scandal that rocked the F1 world (the controversy being that the McLaren team was caught in possession of confidential information about the Ferrari team), the new season is seen as promising with the inclusion of the Singapore Grand Prix.
The 2008 Formula One Race will see Raikkonen defend his world title against top race drivers including Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Felipe Massa. Australia will kick start the 2008 F1season with the Australian Grand Prix, happening on March 14 to 16. This will be followed by the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix on March 21 to 23.
The 2007 Malaysian Grand Prix saw Fernando Alonso winning the race, with Raikkonen placing only in third rank. Will this year's Malaysian Grand Prix put Raikkonen on the top place? Or will it be claimed by Alonso again? Be part of the Malaysian F1 Race and find out. Get your tickets as early as now.
Living outside Malaysia? Not to worry. There are numerous accommodations you can find in the country that are proximate to the Sepang International Circuit - the venue of the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Saujana Kuala Lumpur is one of these. It is located 50 kilometers away from the circuit and provides spacious but elegant rooms that are easy on the pocket. The Saujana is currently having a Formula One promo. Visit thesaujana-kualalumpur.com [thesaujana-kualalumpur.com] for more information on promo rates and online bookings.

LANGKAWI GEOPARK: A TRULY GEOLOGICAL WONDER
On the northwestern side of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Kedah lies the Langkawi Geopark -- also known as Langkawi Islands. Comprising of 99 islands, Langkawi Geopark is a product of former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamed's vision of developing Langkawi while preserving the archipelago's natural wonders.
The islands' rugged terrain is a testament of its tectonic past; having experienced several geological processes that resulted in new rock formations. Its geo-diversity makes Langkawi what it is today - a land filled with natural wonders that people can enjoy.
Due to its unique landscape and geological history, the UNESCO Global Geopark Network has recently awarded Langkawi its status as a World Geopark, becoming therefore a part of the global network of geoparks. As a result, the Langkawi archipelago is now being re-branded as Langkawi Geopark to capitalize on UNESCO's recognition.
The Langkawi Geopark has three main components, namely: the Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, and the Dayang Bunting Geoforest Park. Natural attractions and important geosites within these areas include Pantai Tengkorak, where one can see some amazing sedimentary structures; Tanjung Buta/Pulau Jemuruk, sites of numerous dead life forms considered to be the oldest in the country; Telaga Tujuh Waterfall, Tasik Langgun, one of the two biggest fresh water lakes in the area; and a network of caves which one can explore.
A number of fun activities for visitors are available in Langkawi Geopark. Jungle trekking, island hopping, spelunking, and boating are just some of these. Tourists planning to visit Langkawi Geopark need not worry about accommodations as there are several lodging houses and hotels near the area.
The GeoPark Hotel is the most convenient of these hotels as it is the only hotel in the area that is located within the Langkawi Geopark. GeoPark Hotel is ideal for backpackers and budget travelers. It offers practical rooms furnished with amenities and provides dorm beds for the not-so-picky travelers. This Langkawi hotel also has a conference room for visitors in town for business. WiFi connectivity is available in the hotel lobby.

Bootylicious Beyoncé Stages Concert in Jakarta
After the much ballyhooed cancellation of R and B artist, Beyoncé Knowles' concert in Malaysia, the world-renowned singer has decided to perform instead in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 1 - the same day that she would have performed in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Beyoncé will stage a live concert in the Jakarta International Event and Convention Center (JiTec) as part of her The Beyoncé Experience World Tour. The Indonesian leg of the world tour will be the singer's seventh stop, after which she will proceed to China, Philippines, Korea, and Taiwan.
Earlier this month, the international singer's talent agency, International Creative Management, has announced that they have cancelled the Malaysian leg of Beyoncé's world tour because of "scheduling conflicts." Speculations have circulated since then that the cancellation was due primarily to Malaysia's strict dress and behavioral codes being imposed on visiting foreign artists. According to the Malaysian government's conservative dress code, all performing female artists must be covered up from the shoulders to the knees. Beyoncé - known for wearing sexy, revealing outfits -- allegedly was not happy with the government's demand.
Malaysian fans disappointed with the cancellation of the concert still have a chance to watch Beyoncé perform as Jakarta is only two hours away from Kuala Lumpur. Concertgoers traveling to Indonesia need not worry about accommodations as there are numerous hotels they can stay in while in Jakarta. One of these hotels in Jakarta is Aston Sudirman Hotel - a five-star hotel with 272 suites and service apartments fit for guests who are used to the finer things in life. Aston Sudirman Hotel is only ten minutes away by car from the Jakarta International Event and Convention Center - the venue of Beyoncé's concert.

The Castles of Fife
Castles have always been prominent fixtures in fairy tales, myths, and legends. Tales of knights, dragons, princes, and princesses wouldn't always be complete without a castle or two being mentioned. Through the years and up to the present, people's fascination with castles hasn't diminished. It is for this reason that there are numerous package tours around the world that include visits to historic castles.
The Scottish town of Fife, which is situated on the eastern side of Scotland between the estuaries of Tay and Forth, is one of the places in the world that is abundant with castles - or what's left of them. Probably one of the underrated destinations within Scotland, the landscape of Fife is made more picturesque because of these castles.
One notable castle in Fife is Rossend Castle - located on the northern side of the Firth of Forth, just west of Burntisland. It was said to have been built in 1119 when it was a mere tower or keep, and known as the Tower of Kingorne-Waster. The north and south wings of the castle were added later in 1382. Rossend Castle had many royal visitors in the past; among them were Mary Queen of Scots who often stayed in the castle. It was also believed that the remains of Queen Margaret were hidden there at one time.
Another popular castle in Fife is the Balgonie Castle, which was built in the 14th century. Originally built for Sir Thomas Sibbald of Balgonie, it remains as the oldest standing intact castle in Fife. Famous visitors of the castle included Rob Roy MacGregor - also known as the Scottish Robin Hood - and British writer Daniel Defoe. At present, Balgonie Castle is a private property and its chapel has become a popular venue for weddings.
The Ravenscraig Castle in Kirkcaldy, Fife was built in 1460 and designed to withstand cannon attacks as well as return artillery fire. Much of the castle's remains can still be seen. St. Andrews Castle, on the other hand, was the former residence of the bishops and archbishops of St. Andrews - a city located on the east coast of Fife. Due to centuries of neglect, ruins are what now remain of the castle.
Castles are not just what can be seen around Fife. Abbeys, monuments, and stately homes also dot its landscape. Travelers to Edinburgh can easily visit this place as Fife is only around 30 minutes away.
Fife has numerous lodgings and other accommodations that visitors can stay in for a night or two. Boreland Lodge Hotel is one of these. This rustic, family-friendly lodging is situated in Inverkeithing, Fife - only a few miles from Edinburgh - and has practical but comfortable rooms that are easy on the pocket. Visitors can take the regular bus that plies from Edinburgh Airport to Inverkeithing Station to get to Boreland Lodge Hotel. The bus stops at Boreland Road, which is just 300 yards on the right to the hotel. For more information about Boreland Lodge, visit their website at: borelandlodgehotel.co.uk [borelandlodgehotel.co.uk] .
